My Personal Commitment to Fast and to Pray " 'I am the Living Bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.' " - John 6:51 Today, I, _________________________________, am learning to eat. When I was a baby, drinking milk seemed like the most natural thing to do, but, as I grew up, I fought hard against the choices put in front of me. I turned up my nose at things on my plate that I had never seen before. I spit out those things that didn't taste good to me, and I refused to eat what I didn't like. In those things I did enjoy - I overindulged. Sometimes, I just couldn't resist; I consumed more than I needed and found myself painfully uncomfortable. And, over time, I considered myself fat. I grew lazy. I became settled with no desire to change. To some degree, I was aware that my health was at risk, that my attitude needed adjustment, and that my complacency was accomplishing nothing of lasting value. I have been a glutton of selfishness and have contributed little to those around me. I have the Spirit of the Living God alive and inside me yet I am living not in victory but in defeat. Today, however, I am willing to take a few baby steps towards, and at, the direction of my Father. For today, I will pursue the life that He intends for me to live - a life full of devotion to Him. I realize that this declaration is just the beginning of a very long journey. I know that I do not have control over some of the circumstances that will surround me, but I understand that I do have control of my responses to them. Today, I am responding to the Lord's call to sit at His table; I am accepting His invitation to dine with Him. I will not fear those things that I do not recognize or understand. I am willing to accept whatever my Father serves; I will eat whatever He puts on my plate, because He is God. He knows exactly what I need. He has made all things, including me, and "in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28). I desire to savor every morsel that He feeds me, and I will accept His nourishment for the good of my spiritual health. I wish to sit as His table and talk to Him, to share my struggles and ask Him for help, to gain His wisdom and guidance, to offer my gratitude and give Him thanks, to get to know Him better and draw closer to His presence, to be wrapped in His love and to accept Him at His Word. I yearn to be called His friend, and I long to make the most of every opportunity to eat with Him. Teach me, dear Lord, one day at a time, and one meal at a time. I long to talk to You each day. Moment by moment, help me remember to call on You - not only in times of trouble but also in opportunities of praise, worship, and gratitude. I am willing, Lord, to seek You and to spend time with You. My personal agreement to dine with the Lord is as follows: (Record your current standing in your walk with the Lord; address your concerns about this fast; communicate what you believe He is calling (or may call) you to do; commit those things for which you must believe Him.) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
