"Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;

a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom."

(Psalm 45:6; Hebrews 1:8)

"Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end,

upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,

to order it and establish it with judgment and justice

from that time forward, even forever.

The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this."

(Isaiah 9:7)

With His first coming, our mighty and glorious King Jesus came into the world, not to set up an earthly kingdom as His people Israel had hoped for and expected, but rather to establish His righteous kingdom within the hearts of man. A promise He had given to His people through His prophets:

"Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah...I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." 

(Jeremiah 31:31, 33)

"Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stone heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God."

(Ezekiel 11:19-20; 36:26-27)

Though His divine work was unseen to the physical eye when our King came "lowly and riding on a donkey", the Commander of Angel Armies indeed rode forth valiantly as a mighty warrior and vanquished the enemy of our souls - the flesh - by His death on the cross (1 Corinthians 15:55-56). He cleared the holy temple precincts within the human heart to make way for His righteous rule and reign. The restoration of the promised land of peace and prosperity began first on God's most priceless and precious piece of real estate - that sacred, secret garden within man that had been ravaged and left desolate by sin; and He applied a purification by His blood that would come through repentance and the regenerating and empowering work of the Holy Spirit in the inner man of every believer. This spiritual restoration would result in a holy people dedicated to God's holy ways and Word and pave the way for the physical restoration that would bring beauty to the earth and ultimate glory to God.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away;

Behold, all thing have become new...Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ,

as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."

(2 Corinthians 5:17, 20-21)

In this new year, strategically called the Year of Divine Government, we are being exhorted to fix our eyes solely on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, and look more earnestly and attentively through the lens of Scripture to gain the light of God's holy perspective, so that we can give priority attention and devotion to the domain that Christ came first to establish - the government of the soul.  Christ came to set up His throne in the believers' heart (the interior life), and to reign their unchallenged, without competing affections, except for Christ alone. He has established His throne in righteousness and calls us to yield to His kingdom rule in our lives. "Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and truth go before Your face." (Psalm 89:14)  Our righteous King calls us to come under His sovereign, benevolent, tender, watchful, and merciful care by first "seeking His kingdom and His righteousness," that we might receive all that we need to live and experience the blessed and abundant life He came to provide for us through His crucifixion, resurrection, and exaltation (Matthew 6:33; John 10:10). "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled" (Matthew 5:6).

Our Sovereign King is a God of intricate design and perfect order. From the beginning, the Holy One of Israel declared His sovereign rule and reign by establishing His holy presence in the midst of His people by setting up His tabernacle in the center of the camp with the tribes of Israel positioned around like the face of a clock.  Whenever it was time for the camp to set out on the next journey, the tribes would move out in order by their standards, as the hands on the clock move (see Numbers 2; 10). They lived and moved and had their being because the Lord God was in their midst and He directed their every step. Just as the tribes of Israel experienced joy in knowing their particular place in relation to the living God, today, we know the beauty and glory of the risen King who indwells those who are redeemed, and we experience the fullness of joy in a life lived in nearness to our Lord and in obedience to His rule in our lives.  May we resolve wholeheartedly to set our clocks this year by the divine rule of God in our lives, yielding ourselves fully to the controlling influence of the Holy Spirit within, so that we may experiencing the fullness of the life that He has provided us through His Word and by His Spirit.  Let us listen for the trumpet to sound signaling sanctified seasons of prayer and feasting and fellowship throughout the twelve months of this year, and calling us to a life of obedience to God's commands and to renewed and deepening intimacy with our Lord as we feast upon His goodness and are nourished in the knowledge of Jesus Christ in His Holy Word this whole year through (Numbers 2:1-10; 1 Corinthians 14:8)!  May the Lord bless and keep you ever close to His heart this whole year through, and may you see Jesus more clearly and love Him more dearly as You walk in the light of His countenance and Word!

"Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,

do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,

may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,

the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling,

what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe,

according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead

and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality

and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named,

not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church,

which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all."

(Ephesians 1:15-23)
